2A Basketball: Tigers Fall Short Against Steilacoom

STEILACOOM — Playing their third game in four days, the Tigers got off to a slow start and never fully recovered in a 54-45 loss to Steilacoom here Saturday in nonleague boys basketball action.

Centralia shot 14 of 54 (26 percent) from the field and trailed 23-8 after a quarter.

“It was a pretty down game overall,” Centralia coach Kyle Donahue said. “We were just pretty lethargic coming out of the gate.”

Tyler Ashmore and Ben Janssan led Centralia with 13 points apiece.

The Tigers limited their turnovers, Donahue added, but couldn’t overcome the poor shooting — which included going 3 of 26 from long range.

“We had what I felt like were a lot of good looks from outside,” he said. “We’ve been asking guys to really think about the shots they were taking, and Steilacoom came out in a 2-3 zone, and we just couldn’t hit anything.”

Centralia (2-4) hosts Port Angeles on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. varsity tipoff, and hosts North Mason on Friday night.
