TUMWATER — Centralia allowed 30 points in one quarter and fell to Black Hills 73-46 in a 2A Evergreen boy basketball game here Friday night.

The Tigers took a five point lead into the second quarter but wound up trailing 40-27 at the half after an offensive explosion by the Wolves.

“They got a lot of offensive rebound and we didn’t really take care of the boards,” said Centralia coach Kyle Donahue. “We actually felt like we played pretty good defense throughout most of the game.”

Michael Ajoge led Centralia with 29 points and 12 rebounds.

Jackson Bauer scored 23 points for Black Hills and Gabe Wright added 17 points.

“I told the kids after the game that I felt really good about the game and they outshot us,” Donahue said. “That’s pretty much what it comes down to.”

Warriors Can’t Catch T-Birds

TUMWATER — A five point opening quarter set Rochester in a hole they couldn’t dig out of here Friday night as the Thunderbirds bested them 50-61 in 2A Evergreen Conference boys basketball action.

“We’re not a high octane teams by any means so five is obviously not going to get it done, but the message is always that if you keep the other team under 15 you can always get back in it,” said Rochester coach Mark Goldrick. “We were successful in that tonight. We scored five but they only scored 13.”

However, in the second quarter Tumwater started to warm up and stretched their lead out to 15 points.

“We chipped away in the second half,” said Goldrick. “It’s a credit to my kids. They don’t quit. Nobody in the gym would be able to tell if they’re down by 30 or up by 10.”

Keegan Goldrick and Blake Moen led Rochester with 14 points each with Moen connecting on four long range attempts.

“We’ve been waiting for that. It’s a little bit later in the season but if he’s open now he’s going to knock them down,” Goldrick said of Moen.

Enrique Sanchez added 10 points for Rochester and Patrick Riley paired seven rebounds with seven points.

Tumwater’s Gunnar Fields scored a game-high 15 points.

Rochester (2-15) will play at Black HIlls on Tuesday.
