2A Girls Basketball: Black Hills Hands W.F. West First Conference Loss

TUMWATER — Emma Duff shot 7 of 10 from behind the arc, helping Black Hills hand W.F. West their first Evergreen 2A Conference loss of the season here 67-45 on Thursday night.
Duff led all scorers with 31 points. Maisy Williams added 15 points and Taylor Patti chipped in 10 points for Black Hills.
W.F. West was led by Shasta Lofgren with 20 points, including 8 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Lexie Strasser pitched in 18 points for the Bearcats.
Black Hills led 25-17 after the first quarter. The second quarter had nine points total, including seven W.F. West points, to put the Wolves on top 27-24 at intermission.
The Wolves scored 20 points in the third quarter to build a 47-36 lead after three quarter, as Black Hills held off the Bearcats in the fourth quarter to pick up the victory.
W.F. West (10-2, 2-1 conference) has another big game on Monday, hosting White River in a nonleague contest.

Tigers Maul Warriors
Ellie Corwin’s 20 points and 16 rebounds helped Centralia earn a 53-36 win over Rochester in Evergreen 2A Conference basketball action in Centralia on Thursday night.
Carissa Kaut added 16 points for the Tigers. Rochester was led by Paige Winter with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Kaut made two three’s and Corwin scored six points in the first, along with Centralia’ solid defense in the opening quarter to take an 18-4 lead after one. The Tigers pushed the lead to 29-11 at halftime.
Rochester made some adjustments at halftime and cut the Centralia advantage down to 37-23 going into the fourth quarter. Rochester was able to cut the lead to 12, but that is as close as the Warriors got as the Tigers earned the win.
“I wasn’t too happy with the cruise control,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “We were at full strength for first time all year, so we were trying some different combinations. Some kids got out of their game for what they do for us.”
Centralia (8-6, 2-2 league) hosts Black Hills today in a Evergreen 2A Conference makeup game, while Rochester (2-11, 0-5 conference) faces W.F. West on the road on Wednesday in a conference matchup.
