2B Football Roundup: Tigers Blast Rainier, Finish Second in Mountain Division

By The Chronicle

RAINIER — The No. 2-ranked Tigers were coming off a bye week, and they looked rested here Friday night.

Laythan Demarest ran 13 times for 226 yards and four touchdowns, Gavin Parker added 109 yards on 11 carries with three scores, and Napavine crushed Rainier 51-6 to wrap up the regular season.

The Tigers finished second in the SWW 2B League Mountain Division, and will take on Winlock — the No. 3 team from the River Division — in the winner-to-state crossover round.

Napavine finished with 415 rushing yards, and 518 total yards.

Demarest scored the Tigers’ first four touchdowns on 1-, 40-, 53- and 17-yard runs. Parker scored the next two, on 7- and 9-yard runs, before Rainier got on the board with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Mikey Green to Carson Edminster in the second quarter.

Parker added his final touchdown in the third quarter, and Pietro DeBattista knocked through a 15-yard field goal in the fourth frame.

Green went 8 of 23 passing for 137 yards, but the Mountaineers were held in negative rushing yardage for the game.

Demarest also hit 8 of 14 passes for 103 yards for Napavine (7-1, 3-1 league).

Pirates Drub MWP to Cap Regular Season

ADNA — The Pirates scored 42 points in the first quarter and crushed MWP, 69-0, here Friday in SWW 2B League Mountain Division football action.

Adna finished the regular season with a 5-3 record (2-2 league), and will play Ocosta on Friday in the winner-to-state crossover round.

Cole Fay and Braden Thomas each accounted for three touchdowns in the first frame for the Pirates.

Fay scored on a 10-yard run and a 50-yard punt return, and took a pitch from Abel Ingle — after Ingle intercepted a pass — and ran it 25 yards for another touchdown.

Thomas notched 15- and 4-yard rushing touchdowns, and tossed a 70-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Young in the first quarter.

“Obviously, we wanted to come out and play a good first quarter, and execute better,” Adna coach K.C. Johnson said. “We’re healthy now, we’re trying to execute some things, and we’re really happy with how they approached it and how they played.”

Gabe Slape added a 28-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Tristan Ridley and Jaxon Dunnagan ran in scores in the fourth quarter. Asa Ingle ran a fumble back 10 yards for the game’s final touchdown.

The Pirates ran for 229 yards. Slape led the way with five carries for 65 yards, and Thomas added five carries for 56 yards. Morton-White Pass was held to negative-3 yards of offense.

“We feel good about where this team’s at right now,” Johnson said. “We just need to go to Ocosta and take care of business, and then get in the playoffs.”

Ocosta (8-1) is the No. 2 seed out out of the SWW 2B League Coastal Division. The Wildcats’ lone loss came last week against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, a team the Pirates beat 33-6 in both teams’ season opener. The winner moves on to the State 2B playoffs.

Cline, Cardinals Burn Up Wahkiakum 53-7

CATHLAMET — Bryce Cline tallied six touchdowns, and Winlock secured the No. 3 spot out of the SWW 2B League River Division here Friday with a 53-7 drubbing of Wahkiakum.

Coleson Richendollar rattled off a 38-yard run for the game’s first score, then hauled in a 42-yard touchdown pass from Cline to put the Cardinals up 13-0 in the first.

Eli Moon — a junior lineman moved to quarterback due to injuries — scored the Mules’ only touchdown on a 1-yard run early in the second frame. Cline then answered with a 51-yard scoring run, and hit Nolan Swofford (57 yards) and Noah Patching (30 yards) for touchdowns.

Cline also ran back an interception 86 yards, and notched a 23-yard touchdown run.

Swofford added a 39-yard rushing touchdown to close things out.

Cline finished with nine carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns, and hit 4 of 7 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns. The Cardinals finished with 337 yards of offense and intercepted three Wahkiakum passes.

Winlock (6-3, 3-2 league) plays at Napavine (7-1) in the District 4 crossover round. The winner advances to the 16-team State 2B playoffs.

Toledo Blasts Mossyrock 52-20

TOLEDO — The Indians ended the regular season on a high note here Friday, topping Mossyrock 52-20 in SWW 2B League River Division football action.

The win means the Indians finish second in the River Division, and host the No. 3 team from the Coastal Division — Raymond — in the crossover round.

Toledo ran for 453 yards in the win, with Davin Kinsman leading the way with 15 carries for 180 yards. Duke Schaplow (11 carries for 117 yards) and Trey Rego (11 for 107) also hit triple digits.

“We played pretty well overall. We had some things to clean up — we gave up too many yards, and put the ball on the ground too many times,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “We’ve had over 500 yards the last two weeks against stout defenses, so I’m happy with the way we’re playing up front.”

Kinsman scored twice, on 34- and 68-yard runs, and Rego scored on 5- and 4-yard runs. Schaplow ran in a pair of scores and tossed a 15-yard touchdown to Miguel Soto.

Evan Gootgeld threw touchdown passes to Aiden Weist and Tevita Stajduhar, and Tryn Thompson added a 31-yard rushing touchdown for Mossyrock.

The Vikings finish the season with a 3-6 record.

Toledo hosts Raymond (4-5) on Thursday night in Kelso. The winner advances to the State 2B playoffs.

Titans Wallop Fishermen to Wrap Up Regular Season

ILWACO — Max Smith ran for two touchdowns and the Titans scored 27 points in the first half to earn a 48-8 win in a SWW 2B Coastal Division football game here on Friday.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley already secured the division title last week and will host Rainier in the crossover round next week with a berth in the state tournament on the line.

Kollin Jurek ran for 201 yards and two scores on 13 carries and Smith had 108 yards and two TDs on eight carries.

Tyler Adkins was 2 of 3 for 34 yards and a touchdown pass and also ran in a score. Sam Western caught one pass for 19 yards and a touchdown and Wyatt Bush caught one pass for 15 yards.

Smith scored on a 1-yard run to initiate the scoring and Adkins ran in the next touchdown from 10 yards out. Adkins connected with Western for a 19-yard score before Ilwaco put their only points on the board. Landin Isaksen scored on a 4-yard run before halftime for a 27-8 lead at intermission.

Jurek ran in two scores in the third quarter and Smith had the other to put the finishing touches on the win.

“It was good. The team played excellent in every aspect of the game,” PWV coach Josh Fluke said. “The boys were playing good. Offensively, defensively, we were clicking. It’s the game we wanted to look sound going into the playoffs.”

The Titans wrap up the season 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the Coastal Division.
