Adult Softball: Lacey Finishes Sixth at Seattle Invitational

FIFE — The Lacey A’s fought hard at the 59th annual Seattle Invitational adult softball tournament this past weekend and were able to bring home a sixth place trophy from the gold bracket.
Lacey was 2-2 over the weekend and started the tournament with a 3-0 win over Andre’s Athletics out of Kelowna, British Columbia. The A’s were able to earn another win, 3-2, against the Chu Chua Chiefs from Kamloops, B.C., to secure a spot in the gold bracket.
On Sunday, the A’s faced Fleetwood, B.C., and led 4-1 before Fleetwood channeled a comeback and won 5-4. Lacey’s tournament came to an end against the TR Dirt Dawgs of Seattle, falling 10-7 to take sixth place.
The Westside Jacks also competed in the tournament. Westside fell in their opening game to Fleetwood, 2-0. The Jacks fell in their other pool play game against Kamloops, falling 11-5. Westside’s Michael Maxin hit a 3-run home run against Kamloops.
The Jacks played a loser out game on Saturday and were able to prevail against Ladner, B.C., 5-1 to advance to the silver bracket on Sunday.
Westside faced Interbay Door of Seattle on Sunday and fell in a close contest, 1-0. Maxin and Dave Beets were named all-tournament selections for the Jacks.
Sooke, B.C., defeated Fleetwood in the championship game.
The Hub City Fastpitch League is back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on softball fields three and four at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. Games are open to anyone who would like to play.
