Boys Wrestling: Five Locals Win Titles in Kalama Saturday

KALAMA — Five area wrestlers took home individual titles at Kalama’s Rubber Chicken boys wrestling tournament Saturday.

Rochester’s Riley Cohron (145) and Jayden Lancaster (152), Rainier’s Korbin Howell (182) and David Karon (160), and Kalama’s Sutton Moon (220) each won their respective weight classes.

Kalama was the highest-placing local team, finishing third in the 15-team tournament with 148.5 points. Rainier was fifth with 123.5 points, Rochester sixth at 98 points and Toledo 15th with 16 points.

Rochester coach Jason Dick heaped praise on Lancaster and Cohron for winning their titles. Lancaster, who placed third at Class 2A state last season, beat an Oregon wrestler in the 152-pound title match who had placed third at Oregon’s state tourney last season.

“It was two great wrestlers and everyone was watching. Great match between them” Dick said. “[Lancaster] is wrestling well.”

Lancaster also won Most Outstanding Wrestler for his performance Saturday, his first-ever award.

“To get Most Outstanding, that’s pretty awesome,” Dick said. “He deserves it and he definitely earned it.”
