CC Hoops: Lady Blazers Bounced in First Round of NWACs

EVERETT — The Lady Blazers’ season came to a close here Thursday morning in the first round of the NWAC Championships women’s basketball tournament with a 61-46 loss to Columbia Basin.

Centralia led 27-18 at halftime against the Hawks (22-8), the No. 2 seed out of the East Region, but were outscored 22-6 in the third quarter.

Majesty Claybrooks led Centralia with 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting, and Joni Lancaster added 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting with five assists and three rebounds.

Courtney Kemble chipped in 9 points, all from behind the 3-point arc, for Centralia.

Alexis Castro led Columbia Basin with 17 points.

The Blazers finished the season with a 15-14 record, with four sophomores — Claybrooks, Kemble, Kylie Smith and Kayla Howard — on the roster.

Columbia Basin moved on to face Umpqua in the tournament quarterfinals on Friday.
