College Sports: Pierce Sweeps Centralia

Pierce traveled to Centralia on Friday and left Michael Smith Gymnasium with a 3-0 sweep in an NWAC West Region volleyball match.

Pierce won with set scores of 25-15, 25-6 and 25-8.

Centralia’s Autumn Durand had five kills, Stephanie Fried tallied four kills and Peyton Timmons added three kills. Timmons added 12 assists and Macey Martin led the way with six digs.

Centralia (10-19, 3-8) travels to Tacoma on Wednesday for a West Region match.

Women’s Soccer

Centralia Ends Season With Loss to Green River

AUBURN — Centralia fought back to tie Green River here on Saturday, but a late goal by the Gators helped Green River earn a 3-2 win in an NWAC West Region women’s soccer game.

In the first half, Green River’s Haley Sue Hunsaker scored the only goal of the first half in the 7th minute.

The Gators increased the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Victoria Kendall in the 46th minute.

Centralia was able to bounce back, starting with a goal by Gabbi Nowodworski on an assist from Lindsey Hutchings in the 57th minute.

The Lady Blazers tied the game in the 61st minute, with Tayler Sarson assisting a goal by Natalie Coleman. Green River’s Ashley Snorsky scored in the 71st minute to break the tie and the Gators held on down the stretch to earn the win.

Centralia goalkeeper Haylee Perkinson made 13 saves in the loss.

The Lady Blazers finish the season 3-16-1 overall and 2-12 in West Region games.
