Blazers Win Clackamas Invitational Tournament

OREGON CITY — The Centralia College volleyball team extended its September winning streak to seven matches over the weekend, going 5-0 here Friday and Saturday to win the Clackamas Invitational Tournament.

Blazer outside hitter Autumn Durand was named the tournament’s MVP, with teammates Skylah Kunihisa, Kary Sathre and Peyton Timmons all voted onto the all-tournament team.

“This tournament was a great experience for this team,” Centralia coach Susan Gordon said. “We got stronger and stronger with each match we played. We started to become a team, not just a group of athletes that were recruited to play.”

 

Friday’s Results

The Blazers opened tournament play with a 2-1 win over host Clackamas, winning 25-22, 18-25, 15-8. Timmons dished out 30 assists with five digs, Durand had 16 kills, four digs and a solo block, Sathre tallied six kills, four digs and a block, Kendall Camoza added four kills, and ace and three digs, and Nicolle Duryea had eight digs and a pair of aces.

Centralia then beat Lane, 25-21, 19-25, 15-11. Durand had 14 kills and an ace, Camoza had seven kills and 13 digs, Sathre had seven kills and 10 digs, and Timmons dealt 31 assists with seven digs.

The Blazers wrapped up Friday’s action with a 2-1 (23-25, 29-27, 15-6) win over Umpqua. Durand picked up 14 kills with three blocks, Sathre had 12 kills, six digs and a block, and Camoza had nine digs. Timmons notched 35 assists and eight digs, and Courtney Romig chipped in with three solo blocks.

 

Saturday’s Results

Centralia opened Day 2 of the tournament with a 3-0 win over South Puget Sound, 27-25, 25-16, 25-19. Durand had 14 kills, nine digs and a block, while Sathre had 13 kills with a .526 kill percentage. Kunihisa added 10 digs, Camoza chipped in five kills and Timmons recorded 34 assists to send the Blazers into the finals.

The finale saw Centralia matched up with Umpqua again, with the Blazers taking a more convincing win the second time around (25-19, 25-19, 25-20).

Kunihisa had three kills, three aces, 11 digs and 16 serve-receives with a 2.25 efficiency. Timmons piled up 27 assists with three aces and six digs, Durand had 12 kills, four blocks, four digs and two aces, and Camoza added six digs and four kills. Sathre added three kills, two blocks, an ace and six digs.

 

Notes: Centralia beat Yakima Valley on Wednesday, winning in five sets 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 15-11. Timmons had 49 assists, and Durand had 18 kills, 14 digs and six solo blocks. … The Blazers played two matches on Thursday in Everett. They beat Everett 25-16 and 25-20, with Timmons dishing out 27 assists and Durand recording 15 kills, and followed it with a 25-17, 20-25, 15-13 win over Skagit Valley. Timmons had 23 assists, Durand had 13 kills, and Sathre added five kills. … Centralia (11-3) plays at Clark on Tuesday.
