Friday’s 2B Girls Basketball: Sliva’s Hot Shooting Leads Adna Past MWP

By The Chronicle

ADNA — Ellie Sliva scored 25 points here Friday night to lead the Pirates in a 61-32 girls hoops win over Morton-White Pass.

Sliva, a sophomore, came off the bench and hit back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers that closed out the first quarter and started the second.

The spark was needed, Adna coach Chris Bannish said, after a sluggish start; even with Sliva’s early triples, the Pirates led just 11-6 after a quarter before pushing the lead to 30-10 at halftime.

“We have a lot of players that are pretty similar,” Bannish said, “and it needs to be somebody else each night, which will keep us tough to guard.”

Sliva hit seven 3-pointers, while Payton Aselton added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Pirates. Makaela Meister added 9 points and rebounded well, Bannish added.

Jacie Dunlap paced MWP with 14 points.

Adna (2-0) hosts Toledo in the first half of a girls-boys doubleheader on Saturday night, starting at 5:45 p.m. Morton-White Pass (1-4) hosts Napavine on Wednesday in Morton.

The Cardinals gave up 23 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 26 times, while missing 18 free throws — in, as Nelson pointed out, an 18-point loss.

“With those kind of numbers you’re not going to win ball games,” she said.

Addison Hall led Winlock with 14 points.
