Friday’s Boys Basketball: Olson, Evander Lead Tigers to Win at Wahkiakum

Olson, Evander Lead Tigers to Win at Wahkiakum

CATHLAMET — Keith Olson and Cade Evander each recorded double-doubles, and Napavine kept its lead late to beat Wahkiakum, 58-53, here Friday in C2BL boys basketball action.

Evander scored 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting with 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Olson went 6 of 7 for 14 points, with 12 rebounds and three assists.

“We played really well,” Napavine coach Rex Stanley said. “Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how we played. We were able to do a good job as the game went on.”

Landon Dahl, Stanley added, hit a few big shots for the Tigers, going 3 of 6 from outside.

Jake Leitz led Wahkiakum with 15 points, though the Mules didn’t attempt a foul shot in the loss.

Napavine (8-1, 1-0 league) hosts Elma on Wednesday.

 

Loggers Slip Past Adna

ONALASKA — Kayden Allison scored 20 points, leading Onalaska to a 54-51 victory over Adna here Friday in a Central 2B League boys basketball game.

Allison also collected eight rebounds. Onalaska’s Carter Whitehead scored 12 points and Ashton Haight added nine. Danny Dalsted and Cade Lawrence each added five points.

“Overall I thought we could have done better,” said Wayne Nelson. ”I thought we had stretches where we played good defense and others when our defense let them have too much penetration, but I still think our guys played well.”

Cole Fay led the Pirates in scoring with 11 points, while Braden Thomas and Zander Blankenship-Todd each had nine. 

Onalaska (5-0, 1-0 league) hosts Forks in a non-league game on Monday. Adna (5-4, 0-1 league) hosts Rainier on Wednesday.

 

Rainier Holds Off Toledo 44-40

RAINIER — Carlo Arceo-Hansen’s 20 points weren’t enough for Toledo here Friday night in a 44-40 loss to Rainier.

The Central 2B League loss was Toledo’s first loss to the Mountaineers since 2010.

Only three players scored for Rainier; freshman Jason Jeske and sophomore Ian Sprouffske each scored 19, with Logan Bowers adding six.

The Mountaineers, however, were just 1 of 8 at the foul line, where the Indians went 16 of 20.

Duke Schaplow added 10 points for Toledo (2-7, 1-0 league). The Indians host Darrington on Saturday.

Rainier (7-4, 1-0 league) plays at Adna on Wednesday.

 

Cline Leads Winlock Past MWP

RANDLE — The Cardinals came out on top, beating Morton-White Pass 60-45 in a Central 2B League boys basketball matchup here Friday night.

Bryce Cline led Winlock with 25 points. Coleson Richendollar added 13 points, Noah Patching scored 12 and Nolan Swofford added eight with seven rebounds.

The Cardinals led 24-11 after a quarter.

“Our effort was good but our execution was lacking,” said MWP coach Chad Cramer. “We had a slow start that hurt us, but after that we played them basket to basket.”

Hayden Young led MWP with 13 points. Josh Salguero, a freshman, added 10 points.

Layten Collette added six points, four assists and 10 rebounds, while Hunter Holmes dished four assists for MWP.

The Timberwolves (4-6) plays at Kalama on Wednesday. Winlock (7-2, 1-0 league) hosts Onalaska the same night.

 

Tough Loss for Tigers in Woodland

WOODLAND — Centralia went scoreless in the first quarter here Saturday, falling to Woodland 53-28 in non-league boys hoops action.

Woodland led 28-6 by halftime.

Jason Baum led Centralia with eight points. Braidyn Hoyt added seven.

Isaiah Flanagan led the Beavers (5-3) with 16 points.

Centralia (1-9) hosts Rochester on Tuesday night to open Evergreen 2A Conference play.
