Friday’s College Baseball: Lower Columbia Sweeps Centralia

LONGVIEW — The Trailblazers came close in Game 2, but Lower Columbia picked up a walk-off win to complete an 8-1, 6-5 NWAC West Region baseball sweep here Friday.
The Red Devils made the most of their nine hits in the 8-1 Game 1 win, scoring five runs in the second inning and adding three in the sixth.
Wes Kuzminsky went 2 for 4 for Centralia, which had eight hits. Blake Marker went 1 for 4 and drove in the Blazers’ only run.
J.T. Strickler singled in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Red Devils in Game 2, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third base and came home on an error for the walk-off run.
Taylor Mondina went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Centralia in the nightcap. Colton Titus was 1 for 3 and drove in a run, and Will Garcia went 1 for 3.
Yancy Bird pitched the first four innings for Lower Columbia, striking out six with three walks and five earned runs on three hits. DeShawn Johnson took over in the fifth to get the win, allowing just one hit the rest of the way.
Centralia (12-23, 9-14 West Region) hosts Lower Columbia in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Ed Wheeler Field.
