Friday’s College Basketball: Undefeated Umpqua Beats Blazers at LCC Tourney

LONGVIEW — Umpqua kept its record perfect here Friday, beating Centralia 65-48 in NWAC women’s basketball action at the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic.
Kylie Smith led Centralia with 16 points, and Kayla Howard added 12. Umpqua, however, led 36-24 at halftime and got 25 points from Taylor Strickin, who shot 7 of 17 from behind the 3-point arc.
Jordan Stotler added 18 for Umpqua, which improved to 13-0 with the win.
Centralia (7-5) faces Yakima Valley at 11 a.m. on Saturday, back in Longview.
Poor First Half Dooms Centralia Against Walla Walla
CLACKAMAS — Centralia had a poor first half and couldn’t catch up to Walla Walla as the Warriors won 91-67 over the Blazers in the Clackamas Holiday Invitational here on Friday.
Marqus Gilson led Centralia with a double-double, scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jaxon Clarke had 12 points and Collin Prangley scored 10 points coming off the bench.
Marcus McKone and Damen Thacker each scored a game-high 23 points for Walla Walla.
Centralia had 25 turnovers in the game compared to Walla Walla’s 12 turnovers.
Walla Walla built a 45-21 lead at halftime and both teams scored 46 points in the second half.
Centralia (2-8) plays its final game of the Holiday Invitational at 4 p.m. Saturday against host Clackamas.
