Friday’s College Softball: Centralia Falls Twice to Lower Columbia

LONGVIEW — Centralia battled with Lower Columbia here on Friday in two games but ultimately lost both games in a NWAC softball doubleheader.
Lower Columbia won Game 1, 9-6. Dakota Brooks pitched six innings, allowing 12 hits, nine earned runs and four walks with five strikeouts.
At the plate, Britzy Hockett was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI and Brooks was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs and three RBI. Katie Gleasman was 2-for-4 with a home run, a run and a RBI.
Lower Columbia scored a run in the first and three runs in the third and fourth innings for a 7-3 lead after four innings. The Red Devils added two more runs in the sixth to secure the win.
The team’s combined for 34 hits in a 15-10 Lower Columbia win in Game 2. Hockett was 2-for-5 with a triple and a run and Olivia Dean was 2-for-3 with a run, a RBI and a walk.
McKenna Smith was 3-for-3 with a run and a RBI, Shelby Levang was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, a RBI and a walk. Jamie Carlson hit a 2-run home run for the Blazers.
Lower Columbia scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning for a 9-1 lead after two innings. Centralia tried to mount a comeback with three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth and tallied a run in the seventh but couldn’t quite catch the Red Devils.
Centralia (13-8, 8-5) travels south on Wednesday to take on Mt. Hood at noon in a doubleheader.
