Friday’s Legion Baseball: Centralia Titus-Will Falls to Olympia

Centralia Titus-Will scattered nine hits over seven innings, but could only bring home three runs as Olympia won 4-3 in the Brian Cox Memorial Tournament opening game at Ed Wheeler Field on Friday. .
Olympia led 3-1 after three innings and scored the game winning run in the top of the fifth. Centralia scored a run in the fifth and sixth frames but couldn’t bring the tying run across.
“We’re a young group of kids that haven’t played together much. They played on the same high school team,” Centralia coach Rex Ashmore said. “I like the way we came out and competed today, the kids played hard. We’re using the summer to figure some things out and I’m looking forward to a good summer with them.”
Centralia plays in the tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Ridge Baseball and at 12:30 p.m. against Longview, with both games at Ed Wheeler Field.
Rochester Blanks Capital
Bryce Lollar held Awesome Ford to just one hit on Friday to lead Rochester to a 2-0 win in the opening round of the Brian Cox Memorial Tournament in Chehalis.
“He did a phenomenal job. It’s the best he’s thrown,” Rochester coach Brad Quarnstrom said. “He pounded the strike zone, and wood bats in the opposing team’s hands helps, but even with aluminum, he was attacking the strike zone.”
Lollar struck out nine and walked three in the complete-game effort.
“We played great defense behind him, too,” Quarnstrom said. “We made the plays we’re supposed to make.”
Jared Winters singled in the fifth inning, and Jayden Lancaster followed with another single. Tyler Soderback then doubled to score Winters, giving Rochester its final 2-0 lead.
Rochester plays at 12:30 p.m. against the I-5 Jeep Renegades, then faces Ridgefield at 5 p.m., on Saturday as the tournament continues. Both games will be played at W.F. West’s Bearcat Baseball Stadium.
