Friday’s Prep Boys Basketball: Onalaska Holds Off Darrington in Overtime

By The Chronicle
RAYMOND — The Logger saw a 14-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter, but bounced back in overtime to secure a 45-41 win over Darrington in a boys basketball game at the Raymond Holiday Classic here on Friday.
Alex Frazier led Onalaska with 22 points.
The Loggers led 14-3 after one quarter and maintained the lead to 21-11 at halftime. Onalaska led 31-17 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Darrington stormed back into the game.
“Going to the fourth, we were up 14, and I thought we’re in pretty good shape and the wheels fell off,” Onalaska coach Dennis Bower said. “We couldn’t score, we couldn’t stop them. We’re fighting for our life. Give our kids credit, they didn’t panic.”
Bower noted the play of Frazier and Kayden Allison in overtime, with both hitting big shots and making free throws to help Onalaska earn the win.
“Talk about a way to go out of 2017. We held on and found a way to win, we’re happy for that,” Bower said.
Onalaska (3-5, 1-3) resumes Central 2B League games on Tuesday, traveling to face Toutle Lake.
