Friday’s Women’s College Basketball: Riverhawks Take Down Blazers in Centralia Tournament Opener

Centralia turned the ball over 26 times on Friday night, helping Umpqua to a 72-64 win in the Lady Blazers’ Centralia Tournament opener in women’s college hoops action at Michael Smith Gymnasium.

Caitlin Yenne scored 24 points to lead Centralia. Lindsey Nurmi added 12 points and Quinlan Christian scored 10.

Taylor Stricklin and Grace Campbell each recorded 20 points to lead Umpqua.

Centralia shot 45 percent from the field and converted 43 percent of its attempts from behind the arc, while Umpqua won the rebounding battle, 33-24.

The hosts led 40-32 at the break, but Umpqua poured in 26 points in the third quarter and led the rest of the way.

Centralia (2-4, 2-3 West Division) hosts Blue Mountain at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
