UNIVERSITY PLACE — The Bearcats captured third place at the State 1A/2A girls bowling championships at Narrows Plaza Bowl here on Saturday.

The nine teams in the competition bowled 14 bunker games, with the Bearcats recording scores of 149, 130, 144, 182, 167, 143, 188, 168, 121, 169, 156, 164, 148 and 149 helped the Bearcats accumulate a pin total of 6,883.

“Everyone contributed in our Baker games, but we couldn’t quite make up enough ground on the champs,” W.F. West coach Don Bunker said. “We bowled a solid 14 Baker games, but we couldn’t get on that hot streak that we needed to catch up.”

Mark Morris won the team title with 7,157 pins and Black Hills earned second place with 7,063 pins.

In just the second season of the program, Bunker was pleased with W.F. West’s performance on the state stage.

“We were really successful this year because of our consistency throughout our lineup. The difference between our team and every 2A team in the state this year is that we are really deep with solid bowlers,” Bunker said. “We haven’t developed that 200 average bowler yet, but as a coaching staff, we are really excited about the future of our program.”

Seniors Leslie Erwin and Kayleigh Leech each competed in their final prep bowling match.

Bunker noted Chehalis, Fairway Lanes and the Lewis County Bowling Association for their support of the Bearcats this season.
