The LC Sports Summer Report
We’re less than a month away from the first football game of the year! That’s right, the 2017 FOOTBALL season starts on Aug. 31, when new coach Jeremy Thibault leads his team of ruffians down south to play R.A. Long. That’s a Thursday night, folks.
Here’s the Week 1 schedule:
Thursday, Aug. 31
Centralia at R.A. Long, 7 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 1
Hoquiam at W.F. West, 7 p.m.
Rochester at Tenino, 7 p.m.
South Bend at Winlock, 7 p.m.
Napavine at Raymond, 7 p.m.
MWP at Mossyrock, 7 p.m.
Onalaska at Toutle Lake, 7 p.m.
Toledo at Charles Wright, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 2
Adna at PWV, 1 p.m.
But the bigger question: What’s been going on all summer? Has anyone gone to a camp? Worked out a little bit? Won some summer tournaments? Gone to CAMP RILEA? (Oh you KNOW someone’s gone to Camp Rilea!)
Here’s a quick social media roundup of who’s been doing what and where.
Did Centralia go to Camp Rilea? You better believe it! Thibault’s a big Rilea guy. He coached in the C2BL for a few years (people forget that), and C2BL coaches talk about Camp Rilea like Pete Caster talks about his first trip to downtown Portland after dark.
The Loggers got a new schedule board thing and I’ve gotta say, I like it. Totally fits the Logger motif.
Onalaska also went to Camp Rilea, naturally, and somehow took a few hours off of FOOTBALL and SWEATING to go bowling. I dunno, doesn’t sound very intense to me. Maybe Maz is losing his edge, or he forgot Nelson at the bus stop or something.
Oh, and the Onalaska boys basketball teams went to a couple OTA things, including MY favorite: the South Bend … tournament/camp/event. If you’re renovating your gym or building a new school and talking to the architect and your first words aren’t “GIVE ME A KOPLITZ FIELDHOUSE BUT RIGHT HERE” you should rethink your priorities.

I’m pretty sure KC Johnson has a tattoo somewhere that says “If found, return to Camp Rilea” and an Oregon address. Every summer he gets to camp three weeks early to scout the opposition’s scout teams and see how long of a walk it is to the nearest Gatorade store.
Anyway, yeah, Adna went to Camp Rilea, but you already knew that.
Yep, Napavine went to Camp Rilea, but you won’t see them going all INSTA-HAM on social media about it. Here’s the only Twitter evidence they were there:

Yep, it’s a picture of … Onalaska. Typical Napavine. “Hmm? Summer ball? Yeah, sure, maybe we went, maybe we didn’t. Still gotta learn to block and tackle, then maybe we’ll go to camp.”
WF West Football
They got new uniforms, but I’ll miss the old wolf greys, which have now been relegated to JV duty or something like that. Ah, well. At least there’s plenty of contrast between the numbers and the color.

There’s a whole crew of Xpress basketball teams named after their head coach (Xpress Shon Elite, Xpress Dotson, Xpress Kelly and whatnot; I’m not sure if Shon’s team was actually ‘elite’ or he just put that on the form because it’d look cool) and they played in a bunch of tournaments this summer. The best part, though, was Tom Kelly (or Tom Kelly’s Twitter account, which he may or may not control) updating the world on their travels. I like to think he’s just stopping these kids in the layup line and asking them to pose for a picture and tell him about where they’re from, like a Jay Leno sketch or something. “Austria? The Outback!? God save the queen!” or something like that.
This is a team from Brazil, they inform me the water in the toilet swirls the opposite way as it does in Brazil pic.twitter.com/tYnxuWIbpj

Also, now that baseball season is over after five long months, but Centralia Wiffleball (@ctownwiffle) has picked up the slack, with a hilarious Twitter following and a system of tracking stats and records that should make some local athletic directors envious. Check them out here and stay up to date on whatever’s going on at Dulin Grounds.
