Onalaska’s Ashton Haight Emerges as a Fantasy Star
By Aaron VanTuyl
The ingredients for a big Lewis County Fantasy Football performance were all there: a young running back ready to break out, a rivalry game at home, and a favorable opponent.
Onalaska’s Ashton Haight took it all and whipped up a delicious fantasy dinner on Saturday, running for a career-high 269 yards and two touchdowns in the Old Helmet game against Mossyrock.
The final tally? Thirty-eight fantasy points, the high mark among the Lewis County field in Week 2, and a big number in a week where only two other players hit the 30-point plateau.
Here’s the rest of Week 2’s action:
Week 2 Stars
Adna’s Cole Fay ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns (33 points) in a blowout of Toutle Lake, while teammate Brady Collins added a receiving touchdown and a 51-yard punt return (his third of the season) for 14 points. Pirate QB Conner Weed passed for two scores and 72 yards, but throw in his five PAT kicks and he picked up 15 points. … Centralia’s Jose Pineda, a high preseason pick at running back, went off for 181 yards and two scores (30 points) in the Tigers’ win over Mark Morris. … W.F. West quarterback Nole Wollan made his debut with a 70-yard rushing touchdown, 62 passing yards and another score for 19 points. Teammate Brandon White added 76 receiving yards and a TD for 13 points, while Ka’imi Henry ran in two touchdowns with 46 yards (16 points). … Napavine receiver Jordan Purvis had four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown (12 points), while Noah Lantz added 63 rushing yards and 14 receiving yards for 7 points. … Toledo’s Keyton Wallace ran for 93 yards and a touchdown (15 points) in a win over Ilwaco. … Tenino’s Miles Cannon passed for three touchdowns, though full stats were unavailable; assuming he was at around 150 passing yards, that’s good for probably 18 points.
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley receiver Ryan Shepherd piled up 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns (19 points) in a win over Morton-White Pass. He’s got 155 receiving yards and three touchdowns in two games this year, making him a valuable, reliable commodity at an unpredictable position. … PWV quarterback Matt Pearson passed for 112 yards and two scores, and added a 2-point conversion pass for 14 points. Running back Peter Hamilton added a score and 48 yards for 10 points. … Onalaska QB Lucas Kreger ran for 52 yards and a touchdown, returned an interception for a touchdown, and threw a conversion pass for 20 points. Teammate Lazaro Rodriguez ran for 36 yards and a touchdown with a conversion run (11 points), and new-to-fantasy-players Adrian Sanchez ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns (16 points). … Centralia quarterback Kolby Baird ran in a touchdown, kicked a PAT and threw a 46-yard touchdown pass (12 points). … Rochester’s Enrique Sanchez ran for 74 yards and a touchdown (13 points). … Toledo’s three-man running back committee was productive all around. Ethan Buck ran for 80 yards and a touchdown (14 points), and Colby Cherrington added 51 rushing yards and a TD (11 points). Receiver Fano Hansen also got in on the action, with 50 receiving yards and a score (10 points).
Centralia heads north to face Sequim (1-1), a team coming off a 41-6 loss to Montesano. … W.F. West (2-0) hosts winless Highline, a team that’s been outscored 77-26 this year. That should mean decent numbers out of Henry, Wollan and probably at least one of the Bearcats’ crew of receivers. … Rochester plays at 1A Charles Wright, and given the past two weeks Enrique Sanchez looks like a reliable option at RB. … Tenino is scheduled to play at White Salmon (1-1), a team coached by former Onalaska coach John Hallead. … PWV hosts Mossyrock in Pe Ell. Given that Onalaska ran for over 400 yards against the Vikings last week, PWV running backs Peter Hamilton and Tyson Nissell are both valuable assets. … Winlock looks for its first win on the road at Ocosta. … Onalaska tries to improve to 3-0 with Life Christian in town. The Eagles lost 41-0 to Concrete in Week 1 and 36-18 to North Beach in Week 2, so Haight, Rodriguez and Kreger are all decent options. … Toledo plays at Adna in one of the better 2B matchups on the board. … Napavine plays at Morton-White Pass, and the Tigers’ skill players should have a bit more success this week after Saturday’s loss to powerhouse Kalama.
