Locals Shine at Rodeos

LONG BEACH — There were some local names among the winners of regional rodeo contests last weekend.
More than 200 rodeo professionals from the Pacific Northwest competed in the annual Nothwest Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned event at the 74th annual Long Beach Rodeo last weekend.
The Hale family out of Tenino had five family members competing in Long Beach. Casey Hale won the tie down roping competition on Saturday with a score of 11.1. Riata Hale, 10, won the junior barrel racing event out of 10 participants and took home a championship belt buckle. Riata is the youngest member of the Hale family to compete.
Toledo’s Jace Caitlin earned a win in the Longview Rodeo on Saturday with a score of 82. He traveled to Long Beach the next day but was unable to place.
The winning riders and many other locals will be competing in the rodeo during the Southwest Washington Fair in Chehalis in two weeks.
