Men’s College Basketball: Trailblazers Triumph Over Tritons

By The Chronicle

EDMONDS — Every Trailblazer who laced their sneakers wound up in the scoring column here Sunday as Centralia College defeated Edmonds 92-80 in non-conference NWAC men’s basketball.

All nine Centralia players in uniform put the ball through the old peach basket in the win including five players in double figures. That scoring output was paced by Marqus Gilson’s team-high tallies of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Nathan Hoff and Jaxon Clarke added 13 points each for Centralia while Liam Murphy and Tyler Ashmore each posted 11 points in the win.

Ashmore found himself in the starting lineup alongside fellow local hooper Peyton Stanley, who dropped in nine points and a pair of assists. Collin Prangley added eight points and five assists for Centralia.

Centralia coach Jason Moir noted that several players sat out the game with injuries which opened up opportunities for other players to shoot their shot.

“Nate (Hoff) and Peyton (Stanley) and Tyler Ashmore, all three of the locals stepped up and gave us good quality minutes,” said Moir.

The game was not in doubt for long as the Trailblazers held a 41-34 advantage at the half thanks to a bout of accurate shooting. For the game Centralia shot 33 of 56 from the field for a 59-percent clip while Edmonds connected on just 29 of 67 field goal attempts. Centralia also outrebounded the Tritons 34 to 28 as a team.

“We’ve been getting really good looks all year we just haven’t been able to get them in the hoop. We were just due to have a decent offensive game,” added Moir.

This weekend Centralia will play some of the top teams in the region during the NWAC Crossover tournament at Umpqua Community College.

“It will be a good battle for us this weekend. A good test,” said Moir.

Centralia (3-2) will face Spokane on Friday and Skagit Valley on Saturday.
