Monday’s Boys Golf: Voetberg, Wasson Lead Centralia Past Rochester
By The Chronicle
Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg and Brett Wasson tied for medalist honors to lead the Tigers to a 243-290 win against Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys golf match at Riverside Golf Course Monday in Chehalis.
Voetberg and Wasson each shot a 41. Centralia’s Jesse Kuykendall finished second with a 48 and Nolan Rice took third with a 49. Jayden Pannette rounded out the Tigers with a 63.
Rochester’s Gabe Masias led the way with a 51 and Logan Fry carded a 54. Ethan Eyer shot a 59, Luke Barth had a 60 and Xavier Mendez tallied a 65 for the Warriors.
“Rudy and Brett played well. It was a tough day to play, beautiful day but very wet. I usually wouldn’t say anything like this, but the pin placements were really tough,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said. “We struggled a bit putting, but to shoot a 41 on a tough day like that, it’s pretty good. Four scores in the 40s, that’s pretty good golf.”
Centralia faces W.F. West on Wednesday at Newaukum Valley Golf Course while Rochester hosts Aberdeen at Riverside Golf Course in an EvCo match.
