Monday’s Prep Baseball: Loggers Lay a Lick on Winlock

WINLOCK — It took seven innings but the Onalaska junior varsity baseball team was able to run away with a win here on Monday. The Loggers scored seven runs in the final frame in order to put the finishing touches on a 20-8 non-league victory over the Cardinals.
Onalaska jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning on four hits but Winlock battled back for a pair of runs in the bottom half thanks to RBI knocks by Nathan Suhrbier and Zach Prue. The Loggers added three more runs in the second and one in the third before the Cardinals put up a three spot of their own in the bottom of the third inning.
The Cardinals cut their deficit to five runs by the bottom of the sixth inning before the wheels fell off. Onalaska sent 12 batters to the plate in the seventh inning but only needed three hits to do all of their damage thanks go a bevy of walks and errors.
Fitch led the Loggers with four hits and four runs while Talley also scored four runs but had to settle for a trio of baseknocks.
For Winlock Kayden Harrington, Nathan Suhrbier, Zach Prue, and Lukis Tamburello all had two hits in the game. Harrington scored three runs and Prue tallied three RBI. K.K. Hinton and Talen Lofberg added one hit each for the Cardinals.
Brayden Martin earned the win on the mound for Onalaska and Conor Gilreath absorbed the loss for Winlock.
Winlock (0-6) will play at Oakville on Wednesday.
