Monday’s Prep Boys Basketball: Hoquiam Too Much for Onalaska

ONALASKA — The Loggers rallied in the second half, but couldn’t get all the way over the hump in a 54-51 nonleague loss to Hoquiam here Monday.

Carter Whitehead scored 16 to lead the Loggers, while Kyle Hamilton chipped 11 points with five rebounds off the bench.

Hoquiam led 27-14 at halftime, but the Loggers trimmed the advantage to 52-50 in the final minutes before a few missed foul shots helped Hoquiam escape with a win.

“The second half, I thought our guys fought back and played pretty hard,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said. “We got lots of contributions from lots of guys in the second half.”

Rayyon Dayton led Hoquiam with 23 points.

Onalaska (9-10, 2-7 league) plays at Rainier on Thursday to close out the regular season.
