Monday’s Prep Girls Golf: Centralia Tops Rochester
By The Chronicle
Centralia’s Tessa Smith tallied 21 points to earn medalist honors and lead the Tigers to a 57-20 win over Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls golf match on Monday at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.
It was a career best round for Smith, breaking the 20 point barrier for the first time. Lexi Erb earned second with 14 points. Centralia’s Lily Miller and Mazzi Nowicki and Rochester’s Alex Anderson each tied for third with eight points.
Jordan Blaettler had six points and Karen Wu rounded out Centralia with four points.
Rochester’s Kyra Darnell scored five points and Kylie Miller added four points. Alyssa Pontes tallied two points and Andrea Jones chipped in one point.
“We played exceptionally, everybody was really close to their best round they’ve ever had. It’s fun to watch them get better,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said. “Tessa to get 20 points, she played really well. Everybody else, if they didn’t have their best score, they were within a point or two. It’s fun when everybody plays well.”
Centralia travels to Newaukum Valley on Wednesday to take on the Bearcats. Rochester hosts Aberdeen on Tuesday at Riverside.
