Monday’s Prep Softball: Montesano Holds Off Pe Ell-Willapa Valley
By The Chronicle
MONTESANO — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley dug themselves out of a hole against the Bulldogs, but the comeback attempt came up just short as Montesano held on for a 13-12 win over the Titans in a non-league softball game here on Monday.
Katelyn McGough hit a home run on the first pitch of the game and also drove in two runs. Katie Adkins Jeorgi Ritzman were each 2-for-4 and Britney Patrick had a double, a home run and three RBI.
Montesano scored four runs in the first inning and plated nine runs in the third inning to lead 13-1 after three innings. PWV didn’t give up, plating one run in the fourth before scoring 10 runs in the fifth to cut the lead to one run. The Bulldogs held strong down the stretch to preserve the win.
“I thought we played decent up to that point. The wheels fell off, that’s not our norm. We threw the ball around a little bit, it was really hard to watch and uncharacteristic of our team,” PWV coach Ken Olson said. “When the game was over, we get everybody together and it was them talking about what they did and didn’t do. I think it’s important for them to step up and look in the mirror, they scored seven runs on two of those errors. That’s all we have to do, can’t get down when they’re scoring some runs, you have to have the same life when you’re scoring runs. You have to keep fighting.”
PWV (16-3, 12-0) hosts Elma on Thursday in a non-league game.
