Prep Girls Basketball: Tigers Fall to Hilanders in Overtime

Centralia made a last second shot to send the game to overtime, but couldn’t score in the extra period as the Hilanders won 48-37 in a nonleague girls basketball game in Centralia on Wednesday night.

Ellie Corwin led the Tigers, recording a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Wilkerson added 10 points and Danika Jensen scored 5 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Centralia led 9-6 after the first quarter, but Kelso bounced back in the second quarter and led 17-14 at halftime. The Tigers closed the gap to 24-22 going into the fourth quarter, and Corwin made the most of a screen from Hannah Porter to hit a last-second basket to send the game to overtime.

Kelso, though, blanked the Tigers in the extra frame to pick up the win.

Centralia turned the ball over 30 times against Kelso’s pressure defense, Tiger coach Doug Ashmore said.

“The first couple minutes (of overtime), we couldn’t take care of the basketball and ended up fouling,” Ashmore said. “We just had a hard time finding the bucket. We didn’t take care of the basketball at crucial times, but it was a good test in a nonleague game for us.”

Centralia (2-1) hits the road to face Washougal on Friday in a nonleague contest.
