By The Chronicle

CASTLE ROCK — The Bearcats won all but two matches here on Wednesday, defeating Castle Rock 56-10 in a non-league wrestling dual.

W.F. West had three wrestlers win by fall in Chris Powe (195), Isaac Revis (220) and Bo Davis (126).

Bryson Boyd (285) won 5-3 over Levi Hulls and Darren Gray (120) edged Castle Rock’s Ethan Ericson 4-3. Zach Evans (138) won 7-0 against Eric Titus, Mason Marones (145) won 10-1 over Cam Wasson and Bryce Lofenberg (152) defeated Buddy Kaser 6-0.

The closest match of the night was W.F. West’s Evan Moon (170) and Austin McWilliams, with Moon prevailing 6-4 in overtime.

Caden Cunningham (113), Kayden Ryan (106) and Caleb Walters all won by forfeit for the Bearcats.

On the girls side, Xylia Warner (140), Jade Palmer (145) and Madison Wilson (125) all won by pin.

“This is the first time I’ve got to see our guys go live. I’m happy with the performance but we definitely have a bunch of stuff to work on,” W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich said. “For being this early in the season, we had a couple guys that looked good. We’re weird.”

W.F. West is off until next Friday, traveling to Bremerton to compete in the Hammerhead Invitational.

Warriors Fall to Eatonville in Final Match

ROCHESTER — The Cruisers were able to eke past the Warriors here Tuesday night with the benefit of a pair of forfeit losses and a pin in the penultimate match. That pin gave Eatonville a final edge of 40-39 in team points for the non-league dual wrestling meet.

“It was a great meet. It came down to the last match,” said Rochester coach Jason Dick.

Rochester collected numerous last-second pins along the way to keep the meet in suspense until the final match. Jayden Lancaster pinned his opponent with six second left in their 145-pound match, and Jakxen Wherry pinned his foe with two seconds remaining in their 182-pound duel. The Warriors also picked up pins from Dailen Schlecht at 126-pounds, James Jimenez at 160-pounds, heavyweight Elizjah Spitzer, and Reese Cohron at 120-pounds. Fellow Rochester wrestler Riley Cohron added a 9-1 major decision victory at 138-pounds.

However, the Warriors were without wrestlers at 113 and 106 pounds and had to forfeit those matches. That left the balance of the dual up to the final match of the night. In that 135-pound showdown Tallon Betts wound up pinned by Dally Curtis of Eatonville after four minutes to tip the scales in Eatonville’s direction.

“We wrestled in the Aberdeen tournament and did pretty well but we’re still jumping guys around so we had lots of guys wrestling out of weight tonight,” said Dick, who noted that he is actively recruiting small guys to fill out the bottom of their roster. “We have the largest team we’ve had in Rochester in I don’t know how long. We have 43 total wrestlers and we’re still growing. We’ll be two deep at every position by the end of the season.”

Dick tabbed Reese Cohron as his wrestler of the night for battling back from a deficit to claim a pin in 2:52 in his 120-pound match. He also noted that Riley Cohron had a “solid” performance.

Dick also lauded the performance of his heavyweight.

“Elizjah (Spitzer) came out there like a big bear and got the fall right when we needed to,” Dick said. “It was a great, fun dual just all the way around. Fans were excited and the kids were excited. It was the most energy I’ve seen in that gym since I’ve been there.”

Rochester will split its squads this weekend and head in opposite directions. One half of the team will head to Blaine for the Battle of the Border while the other half of the team will compete in a double dual meet at Fort Vancouver against the Trappers and Evergreen.
