Prep Wrestling: Warriors Beat Elma in Opening Dual
ELMA — Rochester won four matches via pin to pick up a win in its first dual wrestling match of the season, 42-36, here Tuesday night in nonleague action.
Riley Cohron (138 pounds), Jakxen Wherry (170), Reese Cohron (106) and Dailin Schlecht (126) all scored pins for Rochester.
Schlecht’s pin came in the first round.
“He looked really good,” Rochester coach Jason Dick said. “He looked pretty crisp.”
Riley Cohron and Reece Cohron — a freshman — also won their respective matches with first-round pins.
Jayden Lancaster, in the 145-pound match, lost 9-7 to Elma’s Justin Sample in what Dick called the match of the night.
“Two state-caliber kids, and it was a close match,” he said, noting that Lancaster was down 5-0 early on but closed the gap. “I think if they wrestled three times, you wouldn’t know who would win two out of three. It was a good match.”
In girls action, Sufina Ahmath wrestled three matches against Elma, going 2-1 on the night, winning a pair of 125-pound contests with a pin and a 15-0 technical fall. Alysha Kester added a pin at 190 for the Warrior girls.
Rochester wrestles in a dual at Eatonville on Thursday.
