Saturday’s 2B Football: Napavine’s Dawson Stanley Throws Seven TDs in Win Over Life Christian
By The Chronicle
LAKEWOOD — Dawson Stanley completed eight passes here on Saturday — seven of them for touchdowns — in a 62-12 win over Life Christian in a Southwest Washington 2B Mountain Division football game.
The win locks up the No. 2 spot in the Mountain Division for the Tigers. Napavine will host the Coastal Division’s No. 3 team in a crossover game, which is currently Ilwaco.
Stanley completed 8 of 12 passes for 240 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed two times for 64 yards and a score.
Laythan Demarest caught three passes for 109 yards and three scores and accumulated 53 yards on four carries and a touchdown. Seth Butler caught three passes for 45 yards and a score and Tanner Low was Napavine’s leading rusher with 78 yards on seven carries.
“He finds a plethora of different receivers. It was nice to see him spread it around a little,” Napavien coach Josh Fay said. “Tanner Low did a nice job on the ground for us. It was a good all around team effort for us.”
The first half was all Tigers. Stanley found Demarest for a 60-yard touchdown pass to start the scoring and Stanley ran it in from seven yards out for a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Stanley threw five touchdowns in the second quarter to five different receivers. He found Woodrum for the first touchdown from 22-yards out and McCollum scored next on a 30-yard touchdown pass.
Butler scored the third TD of the quarter on a 42-yard pass from Stanley, followed by Cade Evander catching a 24-yard touchdown pass. Stanley found Demarest once again for a 20-yard score and a 48-0 lead at intermission.
Demarest caught his third touchdown pass of the game on a 39-yard pass from Stanley for the only points of the third quarter.
Life Christian got on the board in the fourth quarter with a 19-yard touchdown run by Caleb Garrison. Napavine lineman Hayden Lester scored the only touchdown for the Tigers in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run.
“I thought we were focused from the time we got off the bus. I thought our kids executed well,” Fay said. “We’ve gotta focus and get ready for a tough Rainier team, but I’ve liked how we’ve played for the last six quarters.”
Napavine (6-2, 3-1) hosts Rainier on Friday in a Mountain Division regular season finale.
