Saturday’s 2B Softball: Bulldogs Edge Pirates in Nonleague Pitcher’s Duel
By The Chronicle
MONTESANO — Four days after winning a slugfest against a 1A opponent, the Pirates came up short, 4-2, in a pitcher’s duel against another 1A opponent.
Considering Saturday’s opponent was defending State 1A champion Montesano, though, it’s not all bad news for Adna.
Haley Rainier held the Bulldogs to just one earned run in four innings of work and struck out five, and Kiyah Kennedy didn’t allow an earned run over the final three frames for the Pirates.
Montesano ace Sam Stanfield, meanwhile, held Adna to two hits and struck out 12 without allowing an earned run to get the win.
Rainey and Ruby Bower had the Pirates’ only hits, and Rainey and Abby Kruger each scored runs.
Adna led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Montesano used three hit batters, a walk and two errors — along with a run-scoring passed ball — to plate three runs and take the lead.
Peyton Poler drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (16-2).
Adna (15-5) enters the District 4 2B Softball Tournament on Monday, facing Kalama at 6 p.m. at Fort Borst Park.
Toledo Sweeps La Salle to End Regular Season
TOLEDO — The Indians ended the regular season on a high note, sweeping La Salle in a non-league softball doubleheader here on Saturday.
Toledo won Game 1 12-5, with Kyleigh Holmes pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts in the win.
Ayriana Murphy and Amya Thomassom were each 3 for 4 at the plate. Kyleigh Holmes had a triple and a double and Haleigh Holmes added a double for the Indians.
The game was tied at two after four innings before Toledo scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead and scored seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
In Game 2, Toledo scored 14 runs in the fifth inning for an 18-8 win in six innings.
Kyleigh Holmes had two hits and Payton Moore hit a triple off the outfield fence. Trinity Waner and Maryssa Peters also had hits.
La Salle le 8-1 before Toledo’s big fifth inning and the Indians capped the game with three more runs in the sixth.
Toledo finished the season seventh in the Central 2B league, 11-9 overall and 8-8 in league games. The Indians play Toutle Lake in a District 4 2B Softball Tournament loser-out game on Monday at Borst Park in Centralia.
