Saturday’s 2B Volleyball: Mossyrock Reaches District 4 2B Volleyball Tournament Semifinals

MOSSYROCK — Mossyrock reached the semifinals of the District 4 2B volleyball tournament once again this season after earning two wins over Ilwaco and Willapa Valley here on Saturday.

In the opening match, the Vikings swept Ilwaco 3-0 in the opening match. Willapa Valley defeated Onalaska in a sweep to make the quartertinals.

In the quarterfinals, Mossyrock made quick work of the Willapa Valley with a 3-0 sweep.

The Vikings have clinched a berth into the state tournament and will face Ocosta at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Adna for a spot in the district championship match on Saturday.

Onalaska Keeps Season Alive With Win Over Ilwaco

MOSSYROCK — After dropping the opening match on Saturday to Willapa Valley, the Lady Loggers kept their season going with a win over Ilwaco here in the District 4 2B volleyball tournament.

Onalaska fell to Willapa Valley 3-0 with set scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-22 in the opening round of the district tournament.

Olivia Mitten had 11 kills, two blocks and 22 digs and Eryn Duryea added 11 kills, four blocks and 42 digs. Carmen Cleveland-Barrera recorded six kills and 13 blocks and Sophia Leal tallied 22 digs.

Keiley Fickett served 11 of 11, Kaylyna Deck totaled 14 assists and Kayla Osborne chipped in 12 assists.

The loss put Onalaska into the consolation side of the bracket against Ilwaco, who fell to Mossyrock in the opener. The Lady Loggers defeated Ilwaco 3-1, with set scores of 18-25, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20.

Leal recorded 26 digs and served 11 of 11 and Duryea added 23 kills, six blocks and 31 digs. Mitten tallied 20 digs and 10 kills and Cleveland-Barrera had 14 blocks and six kills.

Deck added 19 digs and 16 assists and Dakotah Fuller served 6 of 6 with nine blocks and three kills. MacKenzie Coleman served 2 of 2 and Osborne contributed 16 assists for Onalaska.

“I think in the first game, we played a really solid game. Fundamentally, we had a lot of unforced errors, things like hitting the net, silly errors that were unforced,” Onalaska coach Terri Dalsted said. “In postseason play, we have to eliminate those if we’re going to beat these teams. We showed some grit for winning three straight. I’m proud of them.”

Onalaska will face Morton-White Pass at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Napavine in a loser out match. The winner will play one more loser out match against the winner of Adna-South Bend for a spot into the state tournament.

Napavine Falls to South Bend, Tops Life Christian

SOUTH BEND — The Tigers fell in the opening match of the District 4 2B volleyball tournament against South Bend, but prevailed against Life Christian in their second match here on Saturday.

South Bend defeated Napavine 3-1 in the opening match with set scores of 21-25, 11-25, 25-18 and 25-20.

Haily Murray tallied 13 kills, Sydney Purvis added 7 kills and Ada Williams had eight kills. Olivia Alegria recorded a team-high 40 digs, Vannie Fagerness had 19 digs and Rae Sisson totaled 17 digs.

The loss moved the Tigers into the consolation side of the bracket against Life Christian. Napavine won in a sweep with set scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-21.

Sisson served 100 percent and Williams added 12 assists. Murray totaled eight kills, Ashley Dickinson had six kills and Madison Doughty chipped in five kills.

“We are struggling with consistency right now. We didn’t play with any type of energy,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “They need to figure out how to turn it on and keep it on. We’re at the time of the season where you can’t afford to have off days.”

The Tigers face Wahkiakum at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Onalaska in a loser out game. The winner of the match will face the winner of Raymond-Willapa Valley in a loser out, winner to state game.

Adna Defeats Northwest Christian After Loss in Districts

WESTPORT — The Lady Pirates lost their opening match to Ocosta but rebounded with a win over Northwest Christian to remain alive in the District 4 2B volleyball tournament here on Saturday.

Adna faced the host Ocosta in the opening match, falling in a sweep with set scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 26-24.

“We gave up two points for every one of ours. We got a little better and playing our game in the third and did a better job of competing with Ocosta,” Adna coach Wendie Dotson said. “They had a couple good players that were hard for us to shut down.”

The Pirates moved into the consolation side of the bracket and faced Northwest Christian, earning a sweep with set scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-20.

Adison Stewart and Alyssa Davis each recorded five kills, Faith Wellander had three kills and Sarah Hoven tallied two kills. Ruby Bower had a perfect night at the service stripe for Adna.

Adna faces South Bend at 5:30 p.m. in Napavine in a loser out game. The winner will face the winner of Onalaska-Morton-White Pass at 7 p.m. in a loser out, winner to state game.

Morton-White Pass Defeats Raymond, But Falls to Kalama

KALAMA — Morton-White Pass was a win away from the State 2B volleyball tournament, but lost to Kalama 3-1 in the District 4 2B volleyball tournament quarterfinals here on Saturday.

The T-Wolves fell to the Kalama with set scores of 14-25, 15-25, 26-24 and 25-27.

MWP’s Carly King recorded 24 assists and three kills and Taylor Nilius added 10 kills. Jacie Dunlap totaled seven kills and Katie Salguero added five kills.

“I was really proud of how the girls finished that match. We started out slow but in the last two games, we played a really good brand of volleyball,” MWP coach Tammy Kelly said. “We fell a little short to try to get a fifth game.”

In the opening game of the day, MWP cruised past Raymond 3-0 with set scores of 25-6, 25-7 and 25-20.

Nilius had 10 kills, Shaylee Peters added five kills and King contributed 24 assists and three kills.

MWP will face Onalaska at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Napavine in a loser out match. The winner will take on the winner of Adna-South Bend in a loser out, winner to state game.
