Saturday’s Boys Soccer: United Falls to La Center in District Championship Game
By The Chronicle
VANCOUVER — The third time’s the charm for La Center against United, as the Wildcats won 2-0 to earn the District 4 1A Boys Soccer Tournament title here on Saturday.
La Center’s Hunter Leach scored in the 8th minute on a set piece for a 1-0 lead at halftime. Ian Crocker scored on a header in the 60th minute for the final score of the game.
United won both regular season meetings against La Center, but United coach Horst Malunat noted it’s tough to beat a team three times in a season.
“We definitely didn’t play our best. I think it kind of showed, we just didn’t get anything done,” Malunat said. “It’s hard to play a team three times. They had a little more to prove, they got after it and played really hard and they deserved to win.”
United already punched their ticket to the state tournament and will open the state playoffs on Tuesday against Colville, with the game scheduled to be played in Winlock. If the field isn’t up to WIAA standards, the game will be at Tiger Stadium in Centralia.
