Saturday’s Girls Basketball: W.F. West Comes Up Short Against Prairie

VANCOUVER — W.F. West’s Kiara Steen scored 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as Prairie won 64-59 in a nonleague girls basketball game here on Saturday.
Erika Brumfield scored 9 points and grabbed five rebounds and Julia Johnson also scored 9 points.
Prairie’s Cassidy Gardner led all scorers with 24 points.
The Bearcats outrebounded the Falcons 24-11, but Prairie shot 59 percent from the field while W.F. West shot 42 percent.
Prairie led 15-11 after the first quarter and carried a 32-27 lead into halftime.
W.F. West had trouble scoring in the third quarter, recording just 7 points to allow Prairie to take a 45-34 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Bearcats scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, but Prairie withstood the attack and held on for the win.
W.F. West (9-2, 2-0) hosts Aberdeen on Wednesday in a Evergreen 2A Conference game.
