LACEY — Onalaska’s Zach Wright was the top local placer here Saturday in the Bill Kehoe Invitational cross country race at St. Martin’s University.
Wright, a junior, ran the 5K varsity boys race in 16 minutes, 24 seconds, while Centralia’s Vance Voetberg was 18th in 17:02. Todd Beamer’s AJ Chopra won the race in 15:46.
William Brown finished in 18:09 for the Tigers, with teammate Simon Stehr crossing the finish line in 18:31.
Centralia’s Makayla Erickson was 24th in the varsity girls race in 21:08. Seton Catholic freshman Sydnee Dyer won the event in 19:08. Centralia’s Brynna Rooklidge and Tawnee Craig finished in 23:23 and 23:28, respectively.
Tenino won the middle school boys team event, led by a third-place finish from Braxton Williams (9:26) in the 1.5-mile race.
Centralia hosts W.F. West in an Evergreen 2A Conference meet on Wednesday at Fort Borst Park. Onalaska runs in a 1A Evergreen League meet hosted by Tenino, at Tenino City Park, on Thursday.
Apperson 10th at Hole in the Wall
LAKEWOOD — Austen Apperson finished 10th here Saturday in the Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational cross country meet at Lakewood High School.
Apperson, a junior, finished in 15 minutes, 50.9 seconds, rounding out the top 10 in the boys varsity “team average under 18:00” race. That race featured 153 runners, with Camas’ Daniel Maton winning in 15:11.
Lauryn Apperson ran the 5K course in 21:05, finishing 39th in the girls varsity race for team averages above 22:30.
The massive event featured over 1,000 runners in the middle school, JV and varsity boys races, with over 800 runners in the girls races. Eighty-six high schools were represented at the meet.
Adna’s Brian Maughan finished the JV “over 21:00” race in 20:54, with teammate Thaikham Tripp crossing the line in 21:12 in the same race.
Adna runs in the 12-team JW Black Lake meet, hosted by Ilwaco at Black Lake Trail, on Tuesday.
