Summer Baseball: RBI Splits With ILWU

HOQUIAM — The Dirtbags squeezed out a win in Game 1, but ran out of gas in Game 2 for a 3-2, 7-3 twinbill split with ILWU here Thursday in Senior Babe Ruth baseball action at Olympic Stadium.
Bubbles Cantrell and Daniel Fagerness split the pitching duties for RBI in the opener, with Cantrell fanning five in five innings and Fagerness blanking ILWU with two strikeouts in the game’s final two frames.
Erik Cervantes was 3 for 4 at the dish with a run, Matt Kurzeika went 2 for 3 with a run and Lane Douglass went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.
The hosts, though, bounced back, scoring four runs in the fourth inning of Game 2 to break a 3-3 tie and pull away for the win.
Mason Titus pitched 3 ⅓ innings with six strikeouts in a starting effort, and Fagerness struck out three over the final two innings.
Cervantes was 2 for 4, and Douglass, Kurzeika and Cameron Bowen all added hits for RBI.
RBI hosts the Twin City Eagles at noon on Sunday in Winlock.
