Thursday’s Boys Golf: Centralia’s Wasson Qualifies for State Tournament

OLYMPIA — Centralia’s Brett Wasson shot a two-day total of 158 to take seventh place at the District 4 2A boys golf tournament here at Capitol City Golf Club on Thursday.
Wasson shot a 77 in the second round and an 81 in the opening round. Ridgefield’s Cade Bringhurst won the tournament with a two-day total of 149. The Spudders also won the team title.
Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg is the first alternate into the state tournament after carding a two-day total of 165, shooting a 79 in the second round after an opening round 86. He finished 17th, just outside the cut to qualify for the state tournament.
W.F. West’s Camryn Bostwick made the second day of the tournament but recorded a two-day total of 173, taking 27th place. Tukker Rosbach totaled 177 after two rounds to earn 30th place.
Rochester’s three golfers weren’t able to make the cut after the first round. Logan Fry had the best score with a 98. Gabe Masias carded a 104 and Luke Barth recorded a 117.
“The two seniors showed better than their average, so that was good. We couldn’t ask for a better day,” Rochester coach Eric Holmkvist said. “It was good to see that guys didn’t get fatigued and improved throughout the day. That’s a good sign and I hope we can keep growing as a team.”
Centralia’s Nolan Rice shot a 94, Jesse Kuykendall had a 99 and Jayden Pannette recorded a 112 in the first round.
W.F. West’s Dirk Plakinger just missed the cut with a 92. Brock Bunker tallied a 94 and Jacob Douglass shot a 112.
Wasson will have time to improve his game before the state tournament on May 27-28.
