By The Chronicle
VANCOUVER — United was able to defeat Columbia-White Salmon 1-0 in a District 4 1A Boys Soccer Tournament semifinal game here on Thursday and earn their third straight trip to the district championship game.
United faces La Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. at King’s Way Christian in Vancouver for the title.
“It’s good, we don’t want to give that trophy up,” United coach Horst Malunat said.
The lone goal was scored in the 60th minute. Isaac Cruz tossed the ball to Andreas Malunat on a throw in and Malunat was able to flick the ball over a defender and volley a shot into the net.
Alan Contreras made four saves to earn a clean sheet.
United won the district title two seasons ago 1-0 over La Center and defeated Hoquiam 1-0 last season in the title game.
This season, United won both regular season meetings, including a 3-2 win in La Center and a 3-0 win in Winlock.
“They’re very physical. They want to beat us,” Malunat said. “Every team wants to beat us. we beat them twice and I know they’re itching to beat us.”
Win or lose on Saturday, United has punched their ticket to the state tournament for the third straight season and will host an opening round game next week.
“That’s awesome too,” Malunat said. “ I’m just excited and hope we get that district title and keep that trophy.”
