By The Chronicle

Centralia’s LaBrandon Price scored 20 points, but none bigger than his layup with five seconds remaining to give the Blazers a 95-93 win over Whatcom in a NWAC men’s college basketball game at Michael Smith Gymnasium in Centralia on Thursday.

Price came off the bench and led Centralia with 20 points. Marqus Gilson scored 18 points and had a block as time expired to seal the win. Dionte’ Dixon also added 19 points and six rebounds for the Blazers.

Grant Balvanz had 30 points and Dominick Oliveri chipped in 21 points for the Orcas.

Whatcom shot 54 percent from the field and had 52 rebounds, but the Orcas also turned the ball over 19 times to help out Centralia.

Centralia led 50-45 at halftime. The Blazers maintained a slim lead for most of the second half until Whatcom hit a free throw with 1:33 left in the game to tie the score at 91. Price made a jump shot to regain the lead, but Whatcom answered with a layup to tie the game with 12 seconds left, giving Price enough time to sink the game winning shot.
