Thursday’s Girls Basketball: Beavers Set Ambush for Cougars
By The Chronicle
TENINO — Ashley Schow scored a career-high 26 points here Thursday night as the Beavers outpaced Seton Catholic 63-31 in 1A non-league girls basketball action.
Tenino held Seton Catholic to just three points in the first quarter to post a 13-point lead and held the Cougars below 10 points in three of four quarters.
“We went into overtime down at their place the first time we played so we knew they were going to come out hungry,” said Tenino coach Brandi Thomas. “I think we just had more of an emphasis on Jasmine Morgan because she really hurt us the last time that we played them.”
Morgan finished with a team-high 17 points. However, the Cougars connected on just 10 field goal attempts as a team and missed seven of nine free throws.
Tenino also dominated the boards, collecting 51 as a team, on their way to the 32-point win. Kaylee Schow had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Alivia Hunter added three points and 10 boards.
“That was definitely one of our points of emphasis before the game is all five girls need to be crashing the boards. So if the ball goes up you’ve got to find a body and box out,” noted Thomas.
Abby Severese added nine points to the Tenino tally.
Tenino (7-2) will play at Rochester on Friday.
