Thursday’s Girls Basketball: W.F. West Starts Fast in Win Over Fife

FIFE — The Bearcats scored 21 points in the first quarter and never looked back, earning a 59-49 win over Fife in a non-league girls basketball game here on Thursday.

Drea Brumfield and Madi Mencke led W.F. West with 13 points and Brumfield grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Maggie Vadala and Madi Haakenson each scored 11 points.

Toree Thomas led all scorers with 16 points and Aliya Hunter added 14 points for the Trojans.

The Bearcats pressure defense was on point against Fife, forcing 19 steals with Haakenson leading the way with five. W.F. West also dished 20 assists while Fife had none.

W.F. West led 21-11 after one quarter and continued to play well in the second for a 35-23 lead at halftime.

Fife outscored W.F. West 26-24 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to earn the win.

W.F. West (1-1) hosts Prairie in their home opener on Tuesday in a non-league game.
