By The Chronicle
TUMWATER — Centralia and Black Hills each won three matches but the Wolves won on sets 7-6 in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls tennis match here on Thursday.
Centralia’s Carissa Kaut cruised to the win over Alexa Hollandsworth, 6-0, 6-1, in the top singles match. Makenna Beeson took down Centralia’s Shannon Johnson in the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. Evie Rooklidge earned the win for the Tigers in the No. 3 singles match over Ainsley Dragon, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
In doubles, Selina Ryser and Abby Calvert defeated Centralia’s Maddie Corwin and Liza Hopkins in the top doubles match, 6-2, 6-1. Danika Jensen and Brynna Rooklidge fell to Black Hills’ Ainsley Campbell and Emily Schade in the No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, 6-2. Centralia’s Gracie Wiley and Maya O’Dell took down Fiona Cowell and Brittany Chapman in the final doubles match, 6-1, 6-4.
“I am still encouraged because our number one and number two doubles fought hard. A lot of games went to deuce, and that’s encouraging because you know our girls are right there,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “They keep getting stronger every match. Overall, Carissa continues to play aggressive tennis. Evie keeps getting stronger at singles. Gracie and Maya dominated at the net today to win in doubles.”
Centralia (4-7, 2-4) travels to Tumwater to take on the T-birds on Monday in an EvCo contest.
