Thursday’s Prep Baseball: Bearcats Cap Undefeated EvCo Regular Season

TUMWATER — W.F. West completed an undefeated Evergreen 2A Conference regular season schedule, defeating Black Hills 12-4 here on Thursday.

Tanner Vaughn started for the Bearcats and pitched six innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks with five strikeouts. Brit Lusk pitched the seventh inning and struck out one batter.

At the plate, Brock Jones was 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs and three RBI and Josiah Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.

Daniel Fagerness was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs and Max Taylor was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and a RBI. Luke Bennett was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Bearcats.

W.F. West scored four runs in the first and third innings for an 8-3 lead after three. The Bearcats tacked on one run in the fourth and sixth inning and plated two runs in the fifth to insure the win.

W.F. West ends the season 19-1 overall and 15-0 in league games. The Bearcats are the top seed out of the EvCo and will host Woodland on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium in Chehalis.

Centralia Rolls Through Rochester

The Tigers collected 14 hits to earn a 12-2 win in five innings against Rochester in an Evergreen 2A Conference baseball game at Wheeler Field in Centralia on Thursday.

Centralia’s Tyler Milton was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Colby Steele was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Derek Beairsto was 2-for-3 with a home run and Dominick Aguirre was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Rochester’s Landon Hawes was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Centralia scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second for a 7-1 lead. The Tigers tacked on one run in the third and ended the game early with four runs in the fifth.

“It was nice to see the kids playing good baseball again and nice to see kids making good adjustments at the plate,” Centralia coach Rex Ashmore said. “We were able to move runners when we needed to move runners. It was a good game for us heading into next week.”

Centralia ends the regular season 11-9 overall and 7-8 in league games. The Tigers are the No. 4 seed out of the EvCo and will hit the road to play Columbia River at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the opening round of the District 4 2A baseball tournament.

Rochester ends the regular season 9-7 overall and 8-6 in league games. The Warriors are the No. 3 seed out of the EvCo and will travel to Longview on Tuesday to take on R.A. Long at 4:30 p.m.
