Thursday’s Prep Baseball: Bearcats Maul Wolves
By The Chronicle
TUMWATER — W.F. West scored at least two runs in each inning to cruise to a 16-3 win over Black Hills in an Evergreen 2A Conference baseball game here on Thursday.
Tanner Vaughn pitched all but one out of the five inning contest, allowing three hits, three earned runs and four walks with six strikeouts in the win.
“I thought it was one of Tanner’s better outings. He continues to get better and stronger as the season has gone on,” W.F. West coach Bryan Bullock said. “He did a nice job of throwing strikes and overpowering them.”
At the plate, Leandre Gaines was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four runs and four RBI. Daniel Fagerness was 2-for-3 with two runs and Lane Douglass had a double and two runs. Cyrus Bunker hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and scored two runs for the Bearcats.
W.F. West led 2-1 after one inning, but plated six runs in the second to open the game up. The Bearcats tallied two runs in the third and fifth inning and scored four runs in the fourth inning to end the game in five innings.
“Definitely offensively, we came up with some clutch hits and scored some runs today which we didn’t do against Black Hills the first time,” Bullock said. “It was good to see we got off to a good start.”
W.F. West (9-1, 5-0) hosts Aberdeen on Friday in an EvCo contest.
