Mossyrock’s Stephanie Fried (10) shoots against defense from Alicia Vint (5) during a Central 2B League girls basketball game between Onalaska and Mossyrock at Onalaska High School on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018.

Mossyrock Uses Big Third Quarter to Defeat Onalaska

ONALASKA — Mossyrock scored 25 points in the third quarter to pull away from Onalaska and earn a 67-37 win in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Thursday.

Mossyrock’s Stephanie Fried scored 18 points to lead all scorers. Paige Moorcroft added 16 points and Lainee Grose recorded 11 for the Vikings.

Eryn Duryea and Chloe Nevitt each scored 8 to lead Onalaska.

Mossyrock built a 17-4 lead after one quarter and led 34-17 at halftime.

“We turned the ball over quite a bit. We had a hard time putting the ball in the basket that third quarter,” Onalaska coach Dracy McCoy said. “We only shot 19 percent from the floor. That’s hurting us; we’ve got to put the ball in the basket to win games.”

McCoy noted the solid play of Duryea, McKenzie Pannkuk and Karsen Morris.

Mossyrock (10-2, 7-2) hits the road to face Rainier on Tuesday while Onalaska (4-9, 3-6) hosts Toledo on Tuesday.

NAPAVINE — The Tigers shut out the Cardinals in the first half to cruise to a 52-4 win in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Thursday.

Mollie Olson led the Tigers with 20 points, while Melissa Lee and Becca Snaza each added 8. Jenna Jones scored all 4 points for the Cardinals.

Napavine (12-1, 9-0 league) hosts Wahkiakum on Tuesday while Winlock (2-10, 1-7) travels to Adna Tuesday.

Pirates Plunder Ducks

ADNA — Adna blanked Toutle Lake in the first quarter in a 48-27 C2BL girls win here on Thursday.

Payton Aselton scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Pirates. Ellie Sliva added 8 points.

Casey Wentz paced Toutle Lake (2-9, 2-7 league) with 16 points.

Adna led 10-0 after the first quarter and padded the lead to 22-5 at halftime.

“We’ve done a pretty good job of (playing defense) overall all season. Tonight we controlled it,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “We got everybody in and filtered through. It was a good win because we’re putting our defense together and it’s creating offense for us.”

Bannish noted the play of Makaela Meister, who scored all 6 of her points in the third quarter. He also said Kiyah Kennedy, who came off the bench to score 3 points, played well.

Adna (7-6, 5-4) hosts Winlock on Tuesday.

Kalama Drops Pe Ell

PE ELL — Pe Ell started off strong but couldn’t keep it up as Kalama earned a 52-37 win in a C2BL girls game here on Thursday.

Annika Mason led Pe Ell with 11 points and Maggie Elliott grabbed 11 rebounds. Kalama’s Macey Sykes led all scorers with 16 points.

Pe Ell led 17-9 after the first quarter but managed just 3 points in the second quarter and trailed 23-20 at halftime. Kalama outscored the Trojans 29-16 after the break, and Pe Ell had 34 turnovers in the loss.

“We came out and executed as we practiced throughout the last couple weeks. We’ve been working on some things,” Pe Ell coach Chris Phelps said, adding that it’s tough to win with that many turnovers. “Our defense was not very good. We’re not going to win ball games doing that, either.”

Pe Ell (2-10, 2-7) hosts Toutle Lake on Tuesday in a C2BL game.

Toledo Holds Off Morton-White Pass

MORTON — Anna Tauscher scored 17 points to help the Indians fend off Morton-White Pass, 39-35, in C2BL girls hoops action here Thursday.

MWP led 25-23 after three quarters, but Toledo took the lead and went 12 of 14 at the foul line in the fourth quarter. Tauscher was 8 of 10 from the stripe in the final stanza.

“I thought we played a really fine game tonight compared to (Tuesday). Tonight was a good, tight, competitive game the whole game,” MWP coach Tom Griffith said. “It was one of those fun games to be apart of.”

Griffith commended the play of Peters and Dotson, noting the two combined for 23 of the team’s 38 rebounds.

Toledo (9-4, 7-2 league) travels to face Onalaska on Tuesday while MWP (6-6, 4-4 league) hosts Kalama in Randle on Tuesday in a C2BL contest.
