Tuesday’s 2A/1A Girls Basketball: Balanced Bearcats Blow Out Tumwater

TUMWATER — Annika Waring scored 18 points and W.F. West rolled to another Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball win here Tuesday night, beating Tumwater 85-40.
Waring went 5 of 9 from the field with three assists and a pair of rebounds, leading a quartet of Bearcats in double figures. Julia Johnson scored 15 on 6 of 8 shooting, Maggie Vadala had 12 points with six rebounds and five assists, and Erika Brumfield scored 11 with 11 rebounds and three assists.
The top-ranked Bearcats were playing their third game in five nights, after beating rival Centralia on Friday and No. 4 White River on the road Saturday.
Katie Cunningham led Tumwater with 17 points, but the Thunderbirds went just 9 of 28 from the field and scored 19 points at the foul line, where they were 19 of 24.
W.F. West led 21-9 after a quarter, and scored 30 in the third frame to push the lead to 40 and institute the running clock.
W.F. West (13-2 overall) plays at Black Hills (12-3, 4-1 league) on Thursday in a rematch of last year’s District 4 championship and third-place state tournament games.
Note: Black Hills beat Rochester, 63-23, on Tuesday night. The Warriors (5-10, 1-4 league) host Centralia on Thursday.

Centralia Cruises Past Aberdeen
Ellie Corwin scored 19 points and added nine rebounds to help the Tigers defeat Aberdeen, 57-41, in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball game in Centralia on Tuesday.
Carissa Kaut had 14 points and Rachel Wilkerson recorded 10 for the Tigers.
“I was glad to see Wilkerson and Kaut get back to their scoring ways,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “They picked up their offense a bit.”
Centralia led 14-9 after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 28-21 at halftime.
The Tigers held the Bobcats to 6 points in the third quarter to pad the lead and cruise to the win in the fourth quarter.
“We jumped on them early. We kept getting the lead up there but give credit to Aberdeen, they kept fighting back,” Ashmore said. “A win is a win in league and we’ll take any we can get right now.”
Centralia (10-5, 3-2 league) travels to face Rochester on Thursday in an EvCo game.

Tenino Fends Off Forks
TENINO — Tenino’s Kaylee Schow scored 21 points as the Beavers won 40-37 against Forks in an 1A Evergreen League girls basketball game here on Tuesday.
Rhian Mathis added 8 points for Tenino.
The Beavers led 23-22 at halftime, but mustered just 4 points in the third to spot Forks a 30-27 lead. Tenino’s defense, though, locked down in the fourth and held the Spartans to just 7 points to earn the win.
“The energy was high from both teams, and the crowd and fans really helped. They were phenomenal,” Tenino coach Brandi Thomas said. “It was a great team effort. They kept their composure and did great with lots of adjustments at the end. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Tenino (7-8, 1-3) travels to Longview to face Three Rivers Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in a nonleague game.
