Tuesday’s 2A Boys Basketball: Bearcats Fall to Columbia River in District Opener

VANCOUVER — W.F. West’s Colby White recorded a double-double but Columbia River was too much for the Bearcats here on Tuesday, with the Chieftains earning a 61-35 win in a District 4 2A boys basketball tournament quarterfinal game.

White scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Tyler Speck chipped in five points and Leandre Gaines and Eirikur Saevarsson each tallied four points.

Evan Dirksen led Columbia RIver with 25 points and seven rebounds. Caden Dezort added 14 points and Alex Miller chipped in 12 points.

The Bearcats shot just 28 percent from the field while Columbia River made 45 percent of their shots.

Columbia River jumped out to a 17-10 lead after one quarter and held the Bearcats to five points in the second quarter to build a 28-15 lead at halftime.

It was all Chieftains in the second half, outscoring the Bearcats 33-20 to cruise to the win.

W.F. West will try to keep their season alive on Thursday, facing Aberdeen at 4 p.m. in Tumwater in a loser out game. The Bearcats defeated Aberdeen 75-63 in Aberdeen, but the Bobcats prevailed 62-53 most recently in Chehalis.
