Tuesday’s 2A Girls Bowling: Bearcats Bowlers Topple Defendings State Champs
LONGVIEW — W.F. West was able to defeat Mark Morris on their home hardwood by a score of 1912 to 1853 here at Triangle Lanes on Tuesday during a non-league 2A girls bowling match.
The win announces the Bearcats presence with authority as they seek to win a 2A Evergreen Conference and contend for a a state title this season. Mark Morris captured the state title last year, as well as in 2013, 2012 and 2010. Coming into his year many observers have tabbed the Monarchs as having an inside shot at a repeat.
On Tuesday the Bearcats won both games with a score of 825-778 in the first contest and a score of 803-801 in the second contest.
In the first game Jessica Loflin led all W.F. West rollers with a score of 195. The Bearcats also managed to win four out of five head-to-head matches in that game. Their one loss was at the hands of two-time defending state individual champion Brooklyn Boudreau who rolled a round of 212.
In the second game the Bearcats were paced by Ellie Bunker’s score of 218. However, Boudreaux took honors in that matchup as well with a high score of 258.
In the baker games W.F. West won 160-126 to get things going before falling 148 to 124 in the second contest.
Kelsey Stritmatter and Leslie Erwin each made a case for most consistent Bearcat bowler. Stritmatter rolled scores of 155 and 147 while Erwin rolled games of 161 and 156. Bunker shot a 155 in her first round while Jesica Loflin notched a score of 136 in her second game. Brianna Powe rounded out the W.F. West scoring with rounds of 159 and 146.
W.F. West (3-0) will host Aberdeen at 3:30 p.m. on Monday in a league match at Fairway Lanes.
