Tuesday’s 2A Softball: Rochester Holds Off Black Hills
By The Chronicle
TUMWATER — Delaney Glazer struck out nine batters in five innings of work to help Rochester earn a 6-4 win over Black Hills in an Evergreen 2A Conference softball game here on Tuesday.
Glazer allowed four earned runs on nine hits and earned the win. Liz Phelps came in and earned the save, striking out one and allowing two hits in the final two innings.
Emily Haury was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI and a walk and Glazer was 2 for 4 with a run.
Rochester scored five runs in the fourth inning to earn the win. Black Hills scored four runs in the fifth, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback.
Rochester coach Dave Montgomery noted the Warriors were without a few starters, but was impressed with his team’s ability to still earn the win.
“We asked Liz to step up. Those are her first two innings of varsity pitching, it’s really exciting for her to get out there and get that experience,” Montgomery said. “I’ve really got to hand it to the team for the next man up mentality they had in this game.”
Montgomery also noted the exceptional play of Maygan Kohl at second base and Haury with some big catches in centerfield.
Rochester (5-2, 2-1) is scheduled to host Aberdeen on Thursday in a league contest.
Note: Aberdeen defeated Centralia 6-4 in Aberdeen on Tuesday.
